Happy Turkey Day!

I worked today at the bowling alley and was really surprised that anyone came in.  But after two hours by myself, a few people came in.  The good thing was that I was able to get out of there at 8:00 tonight.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to get moving early tomorrow morning and head north since it looks like Wisconsin has some snow coming in later tomorrow.

I’ve been thinking about most of my posts in this blog and have realized that so many of them are negative, so I’d like to comment on my favorite class.  It’s Survey of Modern Drama, which is actually a theatre history class.  It covers the years of 1875 to 1945.   We cover the history part and then read plays that correspond with that period.  There were a total of four six-page papers that needed to be completed and, of course, I have figured out how to score 40 out of 40 points, while waiting until the last possible seven hours before it was due to begin writing them.  The first paper was 35/40, the next two 40/40, and I’m still waiting for the results of the last one.  It was due last Monday at midnight, so I was a multi-tasking fool while the Packers played – submitted with 40 minutes to spare.  :^D  For each play that is read, a one-page, single space, summary needs to be written.   This actually is pretty tough for me since I can only turn in one page and I really haven’t figured out the summarization part and I include lots and lots of detail.  The Professor has commented that he is amazed at how many words I can fit on a page.  LOL Sometimes the print and margins get pretty small.  Next semester I have Contemporary Drama, which covers 1946 to Present.  Then next year, both semesters I’ll have the early years:  origin to 1550, and 1550 to 1875.  I love learning the history part of theatre, and I love that I’ve figured this Professor out in regards to grading.  Good thing he teaches all four classes!

I don't like Mondays ....

wasn't that a song... hmmm... something for me to research on the net [be right back]

Okay .... I'm back and, yep, it's a song. "I Don't Like Mondays" by the Boomtown Rats was inspired by a deadly shooting at a school - the year 1979. I love the internet. So much information out there and www.snopes.com is a godsend. It helps sorting out the myths from the truth. Pssst... Neither Bill Gates or Walt Disney is not going to send you money if you forward a certain amount of emails. Also, no answer will appear magically on your screen if you forward an email to 5, 10, or 20 of your closest friends. Sorry guys.... LOL

Yesterday I made a quick trip to Nicolet to see the final performance of "The Book of Liz." It was great! I'm always amazed at what Jim is able to design on the small stage. It looks like I'll be able to be up for a few days over Thanksgiving. I said I would work at the bowling alley on Thursday if I could have Fri, Sat, & Sun off. We'll see what kind of follow through happens when the next schedule is posted.

Homework tonight: Find a "middle aged" character from a play - design and apply makeup for them. HAHA -- can't I just go as me??? Tomorrow I have a makeup lab that will be graded. I've already done two - the characters were current age, but against type. I did well on them. Now to keep up that trend. LOL In other words .... off to the books.

Hmmmmmm....

I wonder what tips are like here…..

Nursing home keeps spirits up with own pub
Mon Nov 14, 2005 1:15 PM ET

DUBLIN (Reuters) - A nursing home in Ireland has hit on a cheering way to keep up the spirits of its elderly patients -- by providing its own pub.

St Mary's Hospital in County Monaghan, near the Irish border with Northern Ireland, believes ready access to a good pint may help its patients -- average age 85 -- actually live longer.

"We would say the whole social aspect of life does extend the years -- it means the patients aren't bored to death," Rose Mooney, assistant director of nursing told Reuters.

The pub, which opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. and charges normal bar prices, had also led to an increase in the number of visitors, she said.

Having its own bar made the hospital, which has around 140 patients, unique in Ireland, she added.

Day #1 - Scene Shop

Well, after dreading spending the afternoon in the scene shop, I have to say it really wasn’t bad. I found it interesting watching the others in the shop – of course, there is the guy who doesn’t want to do anything but run the power tools – the guy who milks his time in the shop like carrying one board at a time instead of two or even three – and the guy/girl who disappears whenever there is a crappy job.  LOL I have two more afternoons this week, then only the next three Monday afternoons.  We are building the set for “The Crucible” which will be performed the beginning of December.  I’m curious to see the completed set as all I’ve seen today was one small blueprint of a portion of it.  I’ll keep you posted.

Oh, yea, I almost forgot about an update on my freshman level class – Intro to Theatre.  Last week there was an incident with a group of freshmen who were passing notes and whispering during Prof. T’s lecture.  Prof. T stopped speaking and called the group of “kids” out - one more time and they “know what would happen.”  <hee hee> Well, that happened on Wednesday and it wasn’t until Friday when we found out “what would happen.”  He said he felt it was necessary to explain that anyone interfering with him doing his job would be given one warning and then they would be essentially kicked out of the class.  Apparently he hasn’t had to give this lecture in quite a few years.  Hello People – This is college – we are paying for these classes!!!  Oh, well, maybe your mom and dad are ….  I’m glad I don’t have too many of these freshman level classes.

Hellllooooo November!

ok - ok - ok ... I'm finally writing something in my blog! Will you guys get off my back! [wink-wink]

I can't believe we are into November by three days ... time sure flies! The weather is very strange here - 65 degrees today. I am not complaining. Tuesday I was meeting with my practicum group and they were talking about the big snows they had last year. I was shocked and said to them "You guys get big snow??" They said, 'Yea, we got 8 inches a few times. I laughed and said "oh, big snow." They were are all from the southern part of Wisconsin. LOL

Not much new has happened in the past two weeks. I've been busy with homework and the bowling alley. Next week I start in the scene shop. I'm guessing I'll have some funnies from that experience. :^D

I've been battling sinus crap this week and could use a good night sleep, so I'm off to bed.
